About this deal

All Milly wanted was to fit in somewhere but soon she realizes that foster care isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. I had previously read good reviews for this book from Goodread friends so when I was offered the opportunity to read it I felt I couldn't refuse.

While the mother of the house, Saskia, was clearly damaged and should never have been placed in charge of the care of a troubled teenager.Debut author Ali Land has a fantastic way of writing, with her short, clipped and concise sentences - this only goes to prove less is more! I would like to thank Net Galley and Penguin UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for a honest review.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Penguin UK - Michael Joseph for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately, I feel completely confused by my experience of this book, as my experience seems to have been somewhat different from most other reviewers. Thank you, Michael Joseph Ltd and Ali Land for providing an advanced copy of this book for me to read in exchange for my honest review. As her mother's trial gets ever nearer, Milly is given preparation for the questioning that she will face in court. As Milly befriends another neglected girl who comes from a council estate, whose poverty is in contrast to the foster family’s middleclass privilege, the full meaning of the ‘good me’ and the ‘bad me’ seems to become concrete, ramping up the tension.

Okay, so I will allow ‘controversial’, although the things going on in my mind were more controversial than the words I was reading. While Milly contends with a new family, a jealous sister and an awful round of bullying at her new school, dark thoughts begin to enter her mind. This book is told in the first person point of view following Milly (aka Annie) 15 years old high school student and daughter of the notorious child serial killer.
